The Google Pixel Tablet: More Than Just a Tablet

This review is done in collaboration with Google, who provided me with their tablet for review. I know, I still can’t believe it.

Google hasn't always nailed it in the tablet department, but the Google Pixel Tablet seems to have found its sweet spot. It's like a fancy home gadget with a screen you can detach. Let's talk about what's cool about it and how it fits into our daily lives.

Product Features:

The Google Pixel Tablet boasts a range of features that cater to both productivity and leisure. Its lightweight design, bright screen, and magnetic properties make it an ideal companion for various tasks. I spend a lot of time in the kitchen, and this tablet is a helpful kitchen buddy, where I often watch recipe videos. The split-screen capability and multitasking potential enhance its versatility. On top of that, its integration with smart home devices centralises control and monitoring.

Ups and Downs:

On the plus side, this tablet is easy to carry around the house, and the sound is pretty good when it's on its dock. While not a top-tier camera, it serves its purpose. Yet, it falls short as a travel companion due to the dock's space consumption. The Android experience on tablets is a work in progress, and although not on par with an iPad for apps. The device's 16:10 widescreen ratio is excellent for watching videos, but the 60Hz screen refresh rate might be a drawback for some.

How I Use It:

I found a cool use for this tablet in my kitchen. The ability to attach it to the fridge door through magnets proved to be a space-saving solution for watching recipe videos while cooking. It's also great for video calls while I'm in different rooms at home. Plus, when it's docked, I can see all my favorite pictures from Google Photos.

How It Compares:

I used a Samsung tablet for a long time, and it was like a mini-computer. But this Pixel Tablet is a bit different. It doesn't fit in my bag like the Samsung one did. For now, my iPad is still my go-to for on-the-go stuff. But the Pixel Tablet has taken a special place in my living room. I use it on the sofa, as it's just as good as the iPad for that. In fact, it's even replaced my iPad in the kitchen.

Final Thoughts:

The Google Pixel Tablet's fusion of a tablet, smart display, and home hub is a compelling concept. Google's onto something smart here. Its dual nature, seamlessly transitioning between tablet and smart display modes, is a testament to their innovation. The Pixel Tablet's quality screen serves as an impressive video platform and a superior digital photo frame. With the flexibility of Android, it surpasses traditional smart displays in functionality. On the whole, the Google Pixel Tablet is a refreshing step towards redefining the role of tablets in our homes.
